About Us

Muskaan is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered under the societies registration act.

Muskaan works directly and particularly with children and women in 6 vulnerable urban slum communities in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on issues of education, violence, identity, survival needs of health and nutrition, enhancing livelihoods and savings through micro-credit.

Muskaan’s programs differ across groups of slums, depending on the critical needs in the areas and the capacities and resources within the organization to address these. Over the past ten years, the work has expanded to and been consolidated in the vulnerable clusters of six slums. Inter-personal relationships with the community and intensive work have enriched and informed the different programs of the organisation, making them community oriented, defining the focus and methods of work and at times outlining the changes required in the programs themselves.

Currently 33 people work as full time employees in the organisation and contribute to the development and growth of the different programs. Eighteen part time workers are also attached to the balwadis and the health programme .

A number of volunteers with different skill sets also link up with the organization from time to time and offer their skills and time to specific activities.
