Violence

An elder woman squats outside in a protest with slum dwellers against police violence.

Violence is a part of daily life in the slums. One of the main causes of violence is abuse of alcohol. Slum dwellers face additional violence from outside the community as well. In the case of the Pardhi tribe the main threat is the police, who blame any local incidents on the community or arrest them without reason for exorbitant bail fees. Below you can see a picture of one of the community elders at a protest against police violence organized by Muskaan.
