The Pardhi community living in Rajiv Nagar, Bhopal is in continuous threat of police extortion of money under the threat of implicating in theft. Scrap-picking or at home, children and women are picked up, and violently beaten up in the local thanas, verbally and sexually abused., the police administration justifies this action on the people as they belong to a denotified tribe. The community took a step towards non-acceptance of the continuous violation of their rights through a public meeting with senior police officials. Click on the file for the meeting report.

Tintibai, a 16 year old girl in the same community, committed suicide, on January 16, 2008 after continuous state of helplessness with repeated incidents of humiliation and coping with abusive language and physical violation. She had been beaten up in the thana again that morning on the pretext of having stolen fuel from a vehicle. Click on the file for case details.
